10 tips for Organizing your Family
by Taiha Wagner of The Mom on the Go Network
1. Having a family increases the amount of paper that comes into your home. Deal with it the moment it comes into the house. Develop a
three ring binder system so that those field trip permission slips have an instant place to go and can be located when you need them.
2. Clean your closets every six months. Move your off season clothes to the back or to another storage closet.
3. Kids can clear clutter too. The idea of throwing something away can be tough for them. Take one grocery bag for garbage and another
for donating to your local shelter. Let them wrap their old toys like presents to pass on to others who may be less fortunate.
4. Don’t waste time filing papers you don’t need to save. So many of our transactions are now electronic. There’s no reason to save a six-
month-old cable bill you have already paid when you can access your account on line. I advise purchasing a simple shredder to keep all of
your account information from getting into the wrong hands.
5. Create a 3 ring binder for all of your owner’s manuals and warantee information.
6. Create a folder for all of your take out menus.
7. Create a tax folder so that when you donate all of your clutter, you have a place for the receipt.
8. When making donations to organizations such as the Vets or Lupus, don’t forget to write a list of items donated for tax purposes. Or,
spread your donations out on a table and take a picture.
9. Put a limit on the number of magazines you subscribe to. Don’t save every issue, recycle what you don’t need.
10. Instead of saving all the kids artwork, hang it on the refrigerator, have them stand next to it, and take a picture. Then they will have their
very own portrait.
